Poetry

Hello Readers!

This week in LA we started writing poetry!

I find poetry really interesting and neat. I like taking a look at other peoples poems and trying to write my own. There are so many different and interesting pieces of poetry, and some many different ways to write!

For this assignment Mr. Fisher had us pick one topic that we have to write 12-15 poems on. My topic is music. I was going to write on cars but I changed my mind and picked music instead. I have trouble writing poems and it is tough trying to write them on one topic, But I have a few finished and I don’t think they are that bad.

When I finish the assignment I will show you a few of my poems (if they turn out all right)! :P

    I think it is a good idea to read a lot poetry before you start writing it. When you do that, you see the variety of kinds of poems that exist. Not every poem sounds like Shakespeare or Elizabeth Barrett Browning or any of the really famous poets. Seeing that variety can give you ideas about how to write your own, and it can also give you confidence that your poems aren’t so bad after all!

    I have always disliked even reading poetry because of how I was taught it in school. But as an adult, I have been trying to overcome that dislike.

    I like the poetry of Robert Frost a lot, especially “Home Burial”. I also like “When I Met My Muse” and other poems by William Stafford. I think I like these poets because they tell stories that I can understand.

    I agree with you Robert Frost’s poem are easy to understand I as well like is poetry a lot. When you read “The Outsiders” we wroked with a couple os his poems and I thought they were very good and i really enjoyed them.
