The Outsiders Final Project
Hey, how’s it going.
I have finished my outsider’s final project and I think that it turned out really well!
Like I mentioned in an earlier post I did my project on child abuse, because it was a big part of one of the main characters life. I also chose this topic because I thought it would be really interesting to research on. I found a lot of great information. I found many pictures, and now that I am finished this project I realize how common child abuse is and it is such a horrible thing and it made me sad looking at the information I found. Here is a little bit of information I found that I thought was really interesting but also very disappointing:
- 93% of juvenile sexual assault victims knew their attacker. 34.2% were family members and 58.7% were acquaintances
- Only 7% of the perpetrators were strangers to the victims
- Of sexually abused children in grades 5 through 12, 48% of the boys and 29% of the girls had told no one about the abuse, not even a friend or a sibling
- About 44% of rape victims are under the age of18, and 3 out of 20 victims (15%) are under the age of 12
- Approximately four out of ten sexual assaults take place in the victims own home
- Sadly it is estimated that only one in ten cases of child sexual abuse is reported
- Most children are tricked or manipulated, not forced into sexually abusive activity
- In 1995, 126 000 children were reported of being sexually abused of these 7% were girls
- Approximately 80% of the people, who behave abusively, were abused when they were children.
- Virtually all assailants are males, one in 100 is a female
Child sexual abuse is a horrible crime that goes on everywhere in the world. We must all do our part on helping these young people to overcome this tragedy in their lives, and help STOP this horrible crime from happening to our youth today.

I say child abuse is a crime done by crazy/stupid people that have no life. I don’t even know why they have to abuse children! Hey Issac sorry it took me so long to reply. I am not exactly sure where the stats are from. I got the information from my local Family Resource Centre so I think they are for Canada.
